Project overview

Brit Systems were given the brief to construct the North and South stands.

The redevelopment of Headingley Stadium was part of The Yorkshire County Cricket Club’s ambitious plans to transform Emerald Headingley Cricket Ground into one of the finest cricket venues in the world. Their plan is to complete the project in a phased redevelopment of the ground over the next 20 years.

This plan includes the installation of floodlights and the rebuilding of the North/South Stand. The capacity of the cricket ground will increase from 17,000 to 20,000 in the redevelopment.

Brit Systems were given the brief to construct the North and South stands. Our solution to this brief was to install the BMS control system across the stadium. We also installed Fibre Optic networks and multiple plant rooms.

Here at Brit Systems, we enjoy a challenge and this project came with a few hurdles. One such challenge was that we had to adjust to working in a complex construction environment which included the demolition of existing stands. To overcome this issue we designed systems to streamline the installations. We also had to maintain heating and ventilation throughout the works due to the environment of the installation.

Another challenge we came across was that half of our team working on the project are Bradford Bulls fans. We set our differences aside and constructed the North and South stands of Headingley stadium ready to watch the Bradford Bulls win against Leeds Rhinos.

Because of the phased nature of the project we showcased our ability to work to strict time scales, with our past experience in completing BMS and fibre optic networks to a mass-scale we were able to meet these deadlines and achieved client satisfaction and approval on the overall project.
