Project overview
Brit Systems were tasked with the job of installing a building management system (BMS) for Marne Barracks at Catterick Garrison in North Yorkshire.
Once RAF Catterick, Marne Barracks was handed over to the British Army in 1994. Catterick Garrison is the largest British Army garrison in the world, covering over 2,400 acres (about 10 km2) and a population of over 25,000 in 2021, making it the largest population centre in the local area.
The brief was to provide the BMS installation to the new Super Barracks and install multiple control panels across 18 buildings including weapons stores and army accommodation.
In order to complete this project, we had to ensure our staff had Ministry of Defence (MOD) clearance to go in and out of the site. Our staff were given MOD clearance and we were able to maintain staff numbers on-site to effectively complete this project.
One challenge we faced working in such an environment was the logistical constraints whilst installing a BMS in a MOD barracks, in response to this we ensured our installation plans did not interfere with MOD operations.
Our solution to this brief was to complete the BMS wiring package and install control panel networks as well as gas safety monitoring. We implemented a project management system for the installation to ensure a safe and timely delivery.
Due to our meticulous planning and well-trained staff we were successfully able to complete the installation snag-free.
